I inherited the most fabulous French-style metal garden furniture in white; well…it was white. Three elaborate pieces that are totally divine…and totally rust-infused. Sigh. What to do, what to do?

I was considering having them powder-coated, but felt that might lose some charm or originality. Until I found Hammerite™ Rust Remover which restores rusting metal furniture, tools and fixtures in hours.

Available in both Gel and Dip formulations, Hammerite effectively, and safely, removes rust from vertical surfaces and intricate metal items. I felt sure I was going to find further gardening-related projects perfect for Hammerite.

I am one of those naughty gardeners that does leave gardening equipment exposed to the elements. I don’t mean to. But sometimes after a long day in the garden, I just feel too tired to walk all the way to the shed and put everything away. We have a big property so if I’m near the house I’ll put smaller implements on a table under the eaves at the back of the house. If it rains, they will get a bit wet…and I do love in the Hills, so we get a higher rainfall than the City.

Ideal for garden equipment, watering cans, car parts and nuts & bolts, Hammerite Rust Remover Dip 500ml RRP$19 is so easy to use. Simply dip and soak for up to three hours (earlier if the rust is gone), then rinse using fresh water and clean off any excess rust.

For metal objects that are more intricate, in-built or vertical then Hammerite Rust Remover Gel 750ml RRP$33 is what you need. Excellent for patio furniture, fence, gates, hinges and doors. Using a wire brush or coarse sandpaper remove loose rust, paint and dirt, then with a brush work the gel into the surface with a coating of approximately 1.5 millimetres. Like the Dip formula, after two to three hours wash the surface with clean water and brush off any excess rust.

For objects that are overly rusty, repeat the procedure until the desired finish is achieved. The Hammerite Rust Remover formula is non-harmful, safe on skin and will not damage paintwork, which makes metal care and maintenance easy.
